Paid To Play Games - Any Truth To It?
Are there gamers who really get paid to play video games? Or, is it merely a massive myth which serves no real purpose? Truth be known, people can and are getting paid to play new video game titles every single day. However, the phrase "play" generally will lose some of it's meaning with this sort of opportunity.
One of the major misconceptions with regards to testing video game titles for cash is that it's very easy and 100% fun ALL THE TIME. You're free to plop down, relax, play great new video game titles, and then receive a great big check after you're done. That would truly be a perfect job; but unfortunately, it's not how it actually works. Rather than taking part in a video game for fun, you will be "testing & evaluating" it as part of your overall responsibility.
You heard right, professional video game testers aren't paid sacks of money to have hours & hours of fun playing cool, new video games -- they are paid to test & evaluate the newest video games for developers. That is all.
The most standard response to the above is "what exactly is the distinction between testing a videogame and playing one?" Well, it's simple really. Any time you play a game, you explore & "beat" an area and then proceed on to the next. When you test a game, you'll beat a level after which you'll RESTART that level and play it again. You won't do this once, twice, or even three times. The fact is, you'll do this repeatedly until you have located all the glitches & bugs within that level. This might lead to playing a particular area of a game a dozen or more times to make certain that you've uncovered all of the game's possible errors. Does this sound like a "exciting time" to you? I'm going to just take a guess and say PROBABLY NOT!
Don't get the wrong impression here. Video game testers can and do have fun doing game testing assignments -- it's just that the fun is not as much as lots of gamers think it is. Rather than drinking coke, eating pizza, and spending time with friends trying to play amazing new gaming titles, testers are actually doing their best to make games more fun for the millions of waiting gamers out there.
If you are a game addict and desire to play video games and get paid, then a job as a video game tester is exactly what you need. Not only will it fulfill your cash flow desires, but you will certainly fall into a lucrative career in the process!
